The idea to form The Drifters, Inc. was conceived in Waco, Texas in 1954.  By December, the first chapter was established in Chicago.  During the next two years, chapters were organized in Louisville, Indianapolis, St. Louis, New York and Greater Kansas City.  The first and founding convention of The Drifters, Inc. was hosted by the Chicago Chapter at the Sheraton-Chicago Hotel from October 11-13, 1957.

Over the years, The Drifters, Inc. continue to be in the public focus - not only because of their unique cultural, civic and social involvement - but also because of their on-going commitments to serve as role models and to enhance the universal image of womanhood in the cities where they reside.

Over 600 women in 35 chapter cities comprise The Drifters, Inc.
